Crafty Projects: Origami Flowers

I made these for the buttonholes for members of the wedding parties at our wedding. They’re a bit fiddly but worth it as they look lovely. I used pages from a German edition of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norell that we ordered by accident.

These are made of squares measuring 7 x 7cm.

Fold in half diagonally.

Take the bottom right hand point and join up with the top point.

Do the same with the bottom left point to make a square

Fold the left hand side down

Repeat with the right side.

Using a pencil, place inside so it flattens easily.

Fold in half upwards and repeat for the other side.

Fold the 2 sides together and glue in place. Repeat the whole process 5 more times until you have 6 “petals”.

Along the bottom edge (in the photo) glue and join 3 of the petals up. Repeat for the other 3 petals. Then,  using some pva glue,  insert a wire down the centre of one of the 3 joined up petals then glue the other 3 to join them all up.

You should end up with something like this. I made 2 flowers and wrapped them up with ribbon.

For the buttonholes for the women,  I tied black lace around them.
